I invite you to play my most recent collaborative work with Adam Otto Lutz as part of Maiden LA.
And Search and Words and There and Here is a crossword puzzle where the participants search for the words dispersed throughout the city. The clues vary from playful questions to poetic riddles that obscure the participant's assumptions of the words. Upon arriving at the sites the participants are led to humorous, cynical, or metaphorical responses: words that question its own meaning and context in a city that is parasitic to the fabricated exteriority.
The sites contained in the crossword puzzle divorce themselves from the Los Angeles landmarks that one would find in a tour guide. They are hidden, ironic, and/or transitional places that reveal the apparatus of the ever changing city. The search for the words, spelled out using the reflective stickers typically found on property mail boxes and construction sites, redirects our attention from finite and restriction to curiosity and play.
